Last Dinner with Friends

The film

Last Dinner with Friends is a short 17 minute film about friends engaged in a dinner conversation about the end of the world. The film is part documentary, in that I am filming people being themselves and not characters, and part fiction, in that I will be including scenes that the cast have imagined.

The project

I envision Last Dinner with Friends to be an on-going project, and so I will be continually inviting folks to fill out questionnaires. With enough interest, the project will expand to other communities and a feature length film could be in the works!

The mission

Last Dinner with Friends literally puts the fears, ambiguities, unbelief, and visions of the end of the world on the table for discussion, and in doing so will create more discussions at dinner tables around the world (or at least in Asheville).

The cast

Non-actors. Most of the film will be shot at the dinner table for 8-10. The loose script is based on answers to questionnaires that the cast and others fill out prior to filming. The final cast are chosen based on their ability to communicate their ideas clearly, ease of conversation style, interest in the topic, and availability. This diverse cast will consist of people of different ages, backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, and ethnicity.

    Director, Holly M. Paar

Holly has lived in Western North Carolina for 16 years. Last Dinner with Friends is her second short film.
